The World No Tobacco Day was conducted on May 30 at Bangalore Medical College and Research Center which is also the district anti tobacco cell. The program was attended by key dignitaries including Medical education minister, Health secretary, Home secretary, Joint director food and public health, BBMP commissioner for health, WHO consultant for state, Nodal officer anti tobacco cell, IMA secretary and Dental council of India members.
On “World No Tobacco Day” (31st May 2012), a run for “Voice of Tobacco victims” was organized by VoTV – Voice of Tobacco Victims & Health Fitness Trust. The run was flagged off by Minister of Health & Family Welfare Gulam Nabi Azad, Special Secretary Keshav Desiraju; Jt. Secretary Shakuntla Gamlin and other dignitaries from the Ministry of Health.
Nearly 200 participants from NCC, Scouts, Vocational Institutes, Ghaziabad Runners Club, St John Ambulance Delhi brigade, Team of DHS Mobile Van and few Artist children from Noida and Nangloi participated for the campaign RUN. More than 200 Participants joined the Run campaign in theme T-shirt with Flags & Placards.
As part of the Global Awareness Campaign, on World No Tobacco Day a unique initiative was been launched by Medical Doctors for the citizens of Bangalore. With the primary intention of creating anti-tobacco awareness, this cultural and educational event was held at the Freedom Park on May 31st 2011. The program was attended by around 5000 people and various organisations participated in the event including the BBMP which took a lead role, the Rajiv Gandhi University, Indian Medical Association, Indian Dental Association.
