VoTV sensitized media personnel on Tobacco control in Udaipur division of Rajasthan

VoTV was conducted in a media workshop organized by Rajasthan Voluntary Health Association in Udaipur Division.

VoTV patron spoke about the dangerous use of tobacco and role of Media to in reducing deaths caused due to tobacco, either by direct consumption or passive smoking. He also told that tobacco deaths are the most preventable causes of death.

VoTV in association with Rajasthan Voluntary Health Association sensitized police officials of Bikaner range. Police officials from the districts of Hanumangarch, Churu, Bikaner and Ganganagar attendant the training.

VoTV was conducted on the occasion of launching of “The Clean Campus Safe Campus campaign,” targeting at curbing tobacco and other substance use in educational institutions is a joint initiative of Home, Education and Health Departments.

While inaugurating the state-wide launch of the long-term ‘Clean Campus, Safe Campus’ Kerala Chief Minister Shri Oommen Chandy said that tobacco taxes will be raised further in the state to curb consumption.

VoTV videos sharing their affliction by tobacco related diseases showed in the Jail Sensitization program. Shri T P Senkumar, Director General of Prisons & Correctional Services said he was awaiting Government approval for his proposal to ban smoking in jails. Permission to smoke in jails goes against the Hon’ble Supreme Court direction and the guidelines of the Government of India.

Voice of Tobacco Victims (VoTV) was conducted to sensitize the Hon’able speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly, Mr. G Karthikeyan. The Hon’ble Speaker interacted with tobacco-induced cancer patients Shri Balan; Shri Rabi J; Shri Sukumaran and gave a patient listening to their narratives.

The Director of the Regional Cancer Centre and Chairman – VoTV Kerala Dr. Paul Sebastian, briefed about the negative public health impact in the State from tobacco use. Dr Sebastian said that this public health malady affecting Kerala can be averted by raising tobacco taxes t0 65% similar to Rajasthan, which can reduce tobacco consumption thereby reducing the death rates.
