VoTV sensitized Media on occasion of World No Tobacco Day, in Trivandrum, Kerala

VoTV was conducted on occasion of World No Tobacco Day event at Kerala. The main point of discussion was ‘Role of Media in Tobacco Control’. The interaction was organized as part of the week-long activities in connection with World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) by the WNTD Kerala State Organizing Committee in association with Kesari Memorial Journalists Trust.

Shri Sukumaran, a cancer victims due to tobacco consumption narrated the painful experiences that tobacco use brought him. “If bidis were priced more, I would not have been able to purchase and use it”, these were his words.

Dr. KR Thankappan, Prof and Head, Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies; Dr. R Jayakrishnan, Assistant Professor, RCC; Dr Babu Mathew, Hon.Secretary, Regional Cancer Association; Dr.Sreejith N Kumar, Chairman, Indian Diabetes Education Association; Shri PP James, President, Press Club; Shri Suresh Vellimangalam, Secretary, Kesari Memorial Journalists Trust and 40 other media persons were also present on the occasion.

The story filed from Trivandrum reported that the representatives of the media pointed out the critical need for raising taxes in Kerala in an interaction titled ‘Role of Media in Tobacco Control’ between the best academic minds in tobacco control and representatives of the media.
