Tobacco Victims thank government for banning Gutka in some states

On “World No Tobacco Day” (31st May 2012), a run for “Voice of Tobacco victims” was organized by VoTV – Voice of Tobacco Victims  & Health Fitness Trust. The run was flagged off by Minister of Health & Family Welfare Gulam Nabi Azad, Special Secretary Keshav Desiraju; Jt. Secretary Shakuntla Gamlin and other dignitaries from the Ministry of Health.

Nearly 200 participants from NCC, Scouts, Vocational Institutes, Ghaziabad Runners Club, St John Ambulance Delhi brigade, Team of DHS Mobile Van and few Artist children from Noida and Nangloi participated for the campaign RUN. More than 200  Participants joined the Run campaign in theme T-shirt with Flags & Placards.

VoTV showed its appreciation for the Ministry of Health in an event held in the Constitution Club, New Delhi. A total of around 90 people participated to support the event. These included World Health Organization, Voluntary Health Association of India, Indian Dental Association, Indian Medical Association, Indian Cancer Society, MP doctors association,CTFK, tobacco victims and about 20 media personnels.

Dignitaries present for the event were Keshav Desiraju (Special Secretary) Dinesh Trivedi (Ex-Railway Minister) Ashwini Rai (FDA Commissioner, MP).  Biju Prabhakar (FDA Commissioner, Kerala), Shakuntla Gamlin (Joint Secretary). Dinesh Trivedi (Ex-Railway Minister) declared to form constitutional forum which will work towards the ban of all forms of tobacco

The tobacco victims (Sachin Goel, Navin Khanna, H.S.Vijay, Amit Kumar Baliyan, A.S.Ahlawat, Devendra Singh) shared their sufferings of being a victim of tobacco related cancer. They felicitated the dignitaries and thanked the Ministry of Health for banning Gutka and  appealed that Gutka should be banned  all over India which is the only way to help people stop using it and not let happen what happened to them.

VoTV patrons –  Dr. Lalit Shrivastava, Dr Ajay Kahre, Dr. R.K. Panday Dr. Paul Sebastian, Dr. V P Singh were given warm appreciation for their commendable efforts.
